Seaburn

Grand Hotel

The Grand Hotel is our writing retreat venue located on the Seaburn seafront near Sunderland. Our writing room is bright and offers sea views, the ideal location for inspiration and headspace for writing. There is free parking available, and the hotel is also within walking distance of Seaburn metro station.

Getting to Seaburn

Seaburn in Sunderland is well connected by road and public transport to most North East locations and universities.

From Newcastle

You can get the Tyne and Wear Metro Green Line to Seaburn. The metro station is a 20 minute walk (on the flat) to the Grand Hotel writing retreat venue.

From Sunderland

You can take the E1 bus (destination South Shields) from Sunderland and get off at the Whitburn Road/ Seaburn Terrace Stop. Follow the road over the roundabout to the Grand Hotel.

From elsewhere in the UK

We also offer an extended writing retreat from this venue which can be booked for writers to attend on a residential basis. There are direct train services to Sunderland from London using the Grand Central route, or you can arrive via Newcastle on London North East Rail services and get the Metro or a local service from Newcastle to Sunderland (as above).

Seaburn Metro to the Grand Hotel

Exit the metro station onto Station road and turn left. Follow Station road and continue straight onto Sea Road at the junction next to the Bluebell pub. Follow the road until the roundabout, then turn left and follow the road around until you reach the Grand Hotel on the left hand side.

Physical activity

 

Writing retreats taking place in Seaburn will include a gentle walk guided by the retreat facilitator along the coast. This is a flat walk on a dedicated path (although you are also welcome to walk in the sand or sea!) 

Alternative options include gym facilitates and swimming pool at the Grand Hotel. The path is dual use for bicycles for those who have brought their own bike.
